December 18, 2014

Today was our "4th Thursday" meeting. Since Christmas Day is our meeting date, we changed our date to today.

We had 6 members show up. Two that said they wouldn't make it, but they showed up anyway!

Susy made these outfits for her grandchildren. There were two of these. She was telling us how they love to dress up. Really cool knight outfits!

Kathy H made this block for the blocks we "raffled" off last week. Cis won the blocks and was thrilled to find three of the blocks waiting for her at the shop.

Barb made this one for her. (Sorry it's sideways)

Sue made this block. She was finishing it up today.

Kathy W was taking out her blocks that she was making for her Seahawk quilt. She didn't like the green she had used, and wanted to do another pattern. So, he took her stitches out of the blocks and "made a mess" with the threads. Not only were the threads all over the table, she was wearing them! We just had to tease her about all the work she tore apart!

The fabric for our Spring quilt has been bought. We cut some blocks for those that want to make a block for the March potluck meeting. More blocks will be cut later. Those that were there, took the block to work with. We decided that if anyone wants to make another block, they can buy the fabric at $1.25.

It was a good meeting and we all had a great time.

NEXT MEETING IS JANUARY 15TH AND 29TH, BECAUSE THE 1ST IS ON A THURSDAY.

Christmas Party December 12, 2014

Today was our Christmas Party! We all gathered at Cil's house. There were 14 members attending.

Cil had the house decorated for the season! It was awesome!

Here houses, where in an awesome setting!

Table set for all!

We all enjoyed our potluck. We had plenty of food for all.

After lunch we all gathered in the living room for our drawings! We had plenty of blocks - 11 were present and 4 are still to come. We drew for the winner - Cis won! She got all the blocks. Sorry, missed taking a photo of all the blocks.

We drew for the free one year membership with TAS. Sharon won that price!

We then exchanged our gifts, with little stealing going on. Everyone had a great time. We all enjoyed everyone's company! Then we talked about our next block exchange.

For our March Potluck, the block rules are as follows:

Theme:                       Spring
Background:               Will be proved after Dec 19's meeting
Colors:                        Spring colors - brights, true colors, or what each person sees as spring.
Size:                            12 1/2" unfinished

The background will be purchased next week. Lynn will cut the fabric into 13" blocks and have them ready for the meeting in January. Members can make as many blocks as they like. Names will go in a drawing at our next potluck for the winner. Todays winner is not eligible to win the next set of block, but can contribute to the blocks.

We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting: December 19, 2014.

First, I (Lynn Wiltzius) would like to thank Susy for sending me all the information and photos on our meeting today. I was unable to attend.

We had a great turn out today. With everyone working on their own projects and/or the Christmas block for our next meeting in December.

Deanna was working on Connie's block.

She was moving along great. Deanna B is getting caught up on her blocks lately.

Kathy W's newest flower block. She's slowly getting the Hearts and Flower blocks done.

Everyone having a great time.

Log cabin style blocks Sue is working on.

Teri's Christmas block.

A cute crochet thimble cover.

November 13, 2014

We had a full group today! We were moving around to make room for quilters. It was awesome to see a lot of our members. We now have 20 members in our group. Some have been renewing their memberships this month, as they are due.

Tons of show and tell this time too!

Kathy W was showing her bag for her grandson. This is a bag for her grandson's Logo's.

She was telling about how she made it and what it would all be used for.

Teri showed up after a long gap. She told us all her mother had passed away in October. It was good to see her at the meeting after such a long time away. She showed her table "mat" that she is working on.

It's really pretty.

Barb showed her latest project. It's a miniature quilt she was working on.

Susy showed her quilt she's quilting on now. The postage stamp quilt was finished recently and now she's just hand quilting it. She was quilting on it during our meeting.

Sharon showed her quilt top she just finished. (Sorry can't remember the name of this) She liked the two colors over different colors and made it with brown and off white. (Susy is on the left and Sharon on the right)

Kathy W was showing her pot holders she is working on.

She was telling us about the pattern she has.

Kathy W made this block for the block challenge we have going.

Sharon made this block for the block challenge.

Deanna B made this block for Janet's friendship blocks. We haven't seen Janet in awhile, but think she will be thrilled to see this.

Deanna also showed us her current project. She is taking old crochet dollies and putting them on blocks. She's going to make a quilt out of it to hang on the wall in her sewing room. This is a sample of the many blocks she brought in that where done.

Our next meeting is Thursday, November 20, 2014 - because Thanksgiving is on our usual Thursday meeting. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting.

Don't forget - Christmas block challenge is:

October 23, 2014

Today was a day of learning. Some of us worked on our own projects and some of us worked on making "thread catchers."

Here, Sue is working on hers. Lynn was teaching how to make the catchers. She did miss a step and a few of us had to figure out how to fix the "goof." We were able to finish our catchers without too much worry.

Thanks to Joyce for bring her sewing machine. She was able to sew a few of the pieces that we needed sewed.

These are the catchers that got done. Cis (opened catcher), Lynn (top blue/green), Sharon, Sue K, (middle), and Joyce's (front left) catchers. Lynn made two, but the other was isn't shown. Kathy W, step in to say hi, she wasn't feeling good, so didn't stay long. Lynn gave her the catcher in the photo. Lynn also gave Evelyna (shop owner) the other one she made, for a thank you to her.

Barb brought her quilt she finished. She was able to get it done in a very short time.

We talked about our December Christmas Party. Cil gave out the instructions to her house for the Christmas Party. For those who wish to participate in the "White Elephant" give exchange, the rules are: No more than $15 gifts, gifts can be something you have that is NEW, and should be a gift for a quilter.

October 9, 2014

Potluck Day! We had a great turn out of at least 12 members. It was good to see those we haven't seen in awhile and missed the others that are regulars. It was a full house, so it worked out pretty good.

The basket blocks turned out awesome! We had 12 entries into the drawing. Before drawing a winner, we discussed what we would do with the future blocks as a challenge. We talked about winners picking the next block pattern, but in the long run we decided to keep it simple. Themes will probably go with the seasons. That way the different color themes going, everyone should be happy. In the future we can buy a quarter of fabric and have that used for each block. The group voted to "keep it simple" and continue what we were doing.

Joyce won the first quarterly block challenge. Before she won, it was voted that the person winning the block can not win back to back. Congratulations Joyce!

This is part of the blocks won.

And this the other part. Some of the blocks were shared each time we met, as they were getting done.

Next challenge -

September 25, 2014

Several members attended the meeting, with a few missing.

Barb, JoAnne, Sue, Joyce, Cis, and Susy (took photo).

Joyce talked to the members about how her group does their block challenges and the grop a a little bit of discussion on maybe incorporating some of the details in our group - maybe once a year. They use a focus fabric so the blocks all look a little more planned. The person who wins the blocks provides the focus fabric for the ext one and can't win those blocks. No back to back wins. Joann organized the potluck so everyone has their assignment of what to bring. Those that were not present can bring what they want.

Susy' block for Benjamin Biggs quilt she's working on.

Joyce's basket block for the potluck.

Barb's block for the potluck.

Joanne's block for potluck.

Susy's block for the potluck.

Potluck is our next meeting - October 9, 2014.

Thank you to Susy for taking the photos and sending the information in to have it posted here.

And Sharon was working on her block - basting.

Cis showed her quilt she just finished and she appliqued the blocks in this.
