March 27, 2014 Potluck

1st Quarter Potluck

Today was a good day for a Potluck. We all had a great time! A few of us was surprised at how many came. We had at least 15 members at the potluck. I was surprised at how fast everyone left. We ate, then it was over. Some of us were ready to start quilting, but then when everyone walks out the door - except 3, then it's not so much fun by "yourself." Hopefully we will get back to having our meeting last till 3 pm again.

Because of space, we had to put the food in the center of the tables, and then we walked around the table to get what we wanted to eat.

Told Kathy W to get out of the way - lol - decided to keep the photo with her leaning! lol

Everyone was listening to Sharon give a demo - you can check out what she was demoing at this site. We welcomed a new member - and look forward to seeing her at our meetings.

This is the "youtube" video of the demonstration that Sharon was giving on a really simple block pattern. It all has to do with scraps, squares and surprise, surprise - no waste of fabric!

Sharon explaining how it worked.

Sharon sharing more information on the block.

Kathy brought in her block for Deanna. I'll take a better photo with my camera at the next meeting. So far Deanna has two blocks returned.

We are asking all members who participated in the friendship blocks to please return their blocks. We have several blocks missing, and it's time we had those blocks back. The only blocks we should have right now is Deanna's. Teri will bring in her blocks when she gets the chance.

Congratulations to Barbara B and Joanne S for winning a free years membership in TAS.

Next meeting is April 10th. We hope you'll all stay longer than you have been staying! Looking forward to seeing you all on the 10th!

March 13, 2014

We had a great turn out! We had about 10 members coming and going with a visit from one of Cil's friends, Sis. They both stay for about an hour and a half.

Kathy W, Barb, and Susy chatting.

Susy, Kathy H, and JoAnn thinking and working hard.

Cil completed this for Kathy H.

Cil completed this for Sharon's friendship block as well. Cil was a beginner in applique but now she's up there with the best of them.

Lynn was working on circles the whole time. She added centers to her block.

Conversations were about the Celtic blocks we all are working on for Deanna Brix. We were trying to figure out how to do them, and checking out the one Sharon completed. (Forgot the photo for that one).

Everyone is working on their own projects now. We have decided what we will be doing as a group, again, but right now a lot of us have projects that need attention.

Our next meeting is a potluck. We're looking forward to see what everyone has been working on, and we are going to have a "auction" for things that are donated to us. Then we hope to draw for a free member to one of our members.

Come in and see what we are up to! We love to see visitors.

February 27, 2014

We had our general meeting on February 27, 2014. A few of our regulars were missing due to the quilt show at the Christian School in Centralia.

Cil and Kathy H checking out the show and tell we had.

First quilt and

second quilt that Kathy W was showing. These are "Grandma quilts." She made these for her family members. We asked her what a "Grandma's quilt" was, and she said, it's a baby quilt for when the grandchildren come to visit. They don't get to take it home, but they get to use it while they visit. We all thought that was a great idea!

This was the banner on the back of the second quilt.

JoAnn was working on these blocks.

Lynn was working on her Affairs of the Heart quilt blocks. She was marking them getting them ready for embroidery.

Kathy H showed her quilt that she did with her daughter. Her daughter bought a sewing machine and wanted to learn how to sew. She told her she could learn by doing a quilt. So they worked on this quilt with the scrap strips they had.

We had a good turn out, even with only 5 members attending.

Our next meeting will be the 2nd Thursdays of March. Our 4th Thursday in March is our potluck, so be sure and attend! We get a lot of good stuff at the potluck!! Drawings will be done for a free years subscription to TAS.
